Just Music: Rihanna- Diamonds

Diamonds (2012)

Rihanna just released the the audio to the 1st single off of her 7th studio album.  The single is entitled Diamonds.  She is singing in a different way, I would describe it as like someone who yodels.  It feels appropriate that she bust out a yodel at the end of this track, but she didn't.  Its pretty dope, still.  Listen for yourself.

Music News: Lil' Wayne turns 30 and makes Music History.

Lil' Wayne

Weezy reached personal as well as professional milestones yesterday.  The self-proclaimed "Best Rapper Alive"  turned 30 yesterday, (September 27,2012).  He also makes a wave on the Billboard charts, with his 109th entry on the Hot 100.  With this entry, he becomes the artist with the most in history, surpassing Elvis Presley.  The record-breaking song is Celebration by rapper, The Game, which is a collaboration with Chris Brown, Tyga, Wiz Khalifa, and of course, Wayne.  In "celebration" of Celebration making history (as well as his 30th birthday), Billboard has decided to make a special countdown of Lil' Wayne's 30 biggest Hot 100 hits.  Check it out: http://www.billboard.com/column/the-juice/lil-wayne-s-30-biggest-billboard-hits-1007962292.story#/column/the-juice/lil-wayne-s-30-biggest-billboard-hits-1007962292.story

Best of 2008: # 1

As you know, I love some Alicia!!! She just did it for me with her 3rd studio album, As I Am.  I already consider it a classic! After No One, I thought there is Nothing that can be better than this! This is it! The end-all-be-all! Then comes this!!! This song replaced No One at the # 1 spot on the r&b/hip-hop songs chart, stretching Alicia Keys' reign over R&B music to 17 consecutive weeks!!! OOOOOOOhhhhhhhhh!!!! I love this song!!! Sing it to me, Alicia, baby!

Like You'll Never See Me Again

Best of 2008: # 2

Keyshia Cole dazzled the R&B world again in 2008, when Just Like You's 4th single, Heaven Sent, became the 3rd song off the album to top the r&b/hip-hop songs chart.  It bested her previous single, I Remember, by staying put for 9 straight weeks at # 1.  It is her most successful song on that chart to date.

Best of 2008: # 3

Mariah shows us a funnier side all while breaking Elvis Presley fans' hearts.  This became MC's 18th # 1 song on the hot 100.  (Only the Beatles have more).

Best of 2008: # 4

Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown, ripping this song to shreds with their vocals!!! Tell me how I'm supposed to breath when Jordin Sparks is singing so amazingly!!! Take my breath away.

Best of 2008: # 5

Lil Wayne is everywhere on my countdown...Why? Because its 2008, and Lil Wayne is the king of music in 2008, duh! I didn't think Love in this Club could get any better, but then comes Love in this Club Part II??? Wow!!!

Best of 2008: # 6

I still sing this song when I forget how to spell independent.

Best of 2008: # 7

Keyshia Cole's 2nd album, Just Like You is, and always will be, the highest point in her career as far as I am concerned.  The album's 1st single, Let it Go was her most successful single ever on the Hot 100.  Then for the 3rd single off the album she releases I Remember, which stayed at # 1 on the r&b/hip-hop songs chart for 7 weeks, her biggest hit on that chart at the time.

Best of 2008: # 8

Weezy Wee hooked up with Bobby V. to make a classic! This ode to female law enforement.

Best of 2008: # 9

A self-motivating anthem for the ages! This song was HUGE!!! It equalled to about 7-8 more months of me hearing non-stop T.I. on the radio following Whatever You Like (which I got really sick of! That's why it did not make my list. I have learned to love it again though after not listening to it for a few YEARS!)  T.I. was one of  the biggest rappers in music before he went to jail. What a shame.

Best of 2008: # 10

It's Rihanna with one of her most catchy tunes!!!  I know if I listen to it I will become momentarily addicted to it all over again.  So sometimes, I try to resist the urge, less it be stuck in my head for days.

My Top 40 Countdown!!!: Best of 2008 (10-1)

We made it to the top 10! # 10 at 7pm (central).

Best of 2008: # 11

Danity Kane was about to EXPLODE when Damaged came out!!! Diddy broke them up though.  Too bad, there 2nd album, Welcome to the Dollhouse, had debuted at # 1 on the Billboard 200 and Damaged became there biggest hit, becoming there 1st single released internationally, where it did well in several markets, and peaked at # 10 on the Hot 100. What a shame.

Best of 2008: # 12

I'm not gonna write you a love song
Cuz you ask for it
Cuz you need one

(random lyrics strike again). Warning: This song is extremely catchy!

Best of 2008: 13

This song became Lupe Fiasco's first commercially successful single, peaking at # 10 on the Hot 100 (# 19 r&b/hip-hop).

Best of 2008: # 14

The Dream was coming with the heat on his 1st album!  This was the 3rd top 10 song on the r&b/hip-hop songs chart from his debut album, Love Hate.

Best of 2008: # 15

T-Pain makes another visit to my countdown. This time Lil Wayne is featured on his song.

Best of 2008: # 16

I also posted this song during Rick Ross week.

Best of 2008: # 17

I can remember this song being on the radio while driving to a football game and everybody in the car just progressively singing So Keep Your Love Lockdown, Your Love Lock -Down louder and louder each time Kanye repeated it in the chorus, until we were all screaming at the top of our lungs!! Good Times...

Best of 2008: # 18

Jesse McCartney got a T-Pain itch and decided to scratch. The result was this song (which I love).

Best of 2008: # 19

The comparisons to food- just great rapping to me...

Best of 2008: # 20

I previously posted this song during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.  I loved it so much, I ranked it # 20 in my Top 40 just on Ipod plays alone.

My Top 40 Countdown!!!: Best of 2008 (20-1)

I am going to finish up my Best of 2008 Countdown today.  # 20 is coming at 6pm (central).

Best of 2008: # 21

This video featured Keri Hilson as the lead lady- Niceeee!

Love in this Club

Best of 2008: # 22

Even though this song is a "male basher", Rihanna's vocals are so darn cute on this, I can't be mad.  I think it is one of her best vocal performances, in my opinion, ever.

Take A Bow

Best of 2008: # 23

If I Never See Your Face Again

Best of 2008: # 26

As the lead single to his bestselling album, The Carter III, Lollipop established Lil Wayne as a bonafide pop star.  I know its a great song, but I just personally liked some other singles off The Carter III better in 2008.  View on to see which ones...

Lollipop

Best of 2008: # 27

Don't mess with Jazmine Sullivan!

Bust Your Windows

Best of 2008: # 28

J-Hud had a large task on her hands with her debut album, following the monster success of Dreamgirls.  Well, she delivered! Her 1st single, Spotlight, went to # 24 on the Hot 100 and topped the r&b/hip-hop songs chart for 2 weeks in 2008.

Spotlight

Best of 2008: # 29

This song takes me to this place.  Its a place I really can't explain, just every-now-and-then comes along this song, and it makes me feel like I am going to this place. Its as if I am going back in time, to this place that I have been before , but I never know where that place is.  I don't know how to put it in to words. Its strange, but it feels good.

I've Changed

Best of 2008: # 30

Just Vids: Chris Brown- Turn Up the Music

While I am still on the subject of the VMAs, this video won Chris Brown the VMAs for Best Male Video and Best Choreography.

Who is Rita Ora?

At the VMAs there was this singer that presented an award, her name was Rita Ora.  I don't know who she is, but I think they said she was a singer.  She looks like Rihanna to me.  I will have to do some more research on her, and I will definitely share with you what I find out.

Work Jamz!!!: I Wonder If I Take You Home

I am sorry, I put closure to the Work Jamz!!! segment, but I forgot another one of my songs from the restaurant, so I just had to add it.  The Black Eyed Peas sample this song on there hit Don't Phunk With My Heart.  I did not know this at the time until I heard this song in the restaurant.  I thought The Black Eyed Peas had just made it.  I Wonder If I Take You Home was recorded by Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam and became a # 1 hit on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart, as well as peaking at # 6 on the R&B chart and # 34 on the Hot 100 back in 1985.

Random Rihanna (9/10/2012)

Work Jamz!!!: Ryan Leslie- Zodiac

This would have to be my favorite song from working at the restaurant.  I can remember trying to figure out who sung this song for days.  At first, I thought it was Usher, so I starting searching for the song on the internet with no results... Then I knew that they would show the name of the song and the artist who would perform it on the screen of the jukebox, but it would only be for a second. I couldn't just stand at the jukebox or my boss would yell at me, so I tried to walk past it as much as possible, but it was never showing the person's name (ugggggghhhhh!!!!) until one day, I finally saw it! It was by Ryan Leslie.  Ryan Leslie is mostly known for his song writing and producing, but as of late has taken a stab at recording.  This song has powers over me! It makes me sing it, everyday.  Even though the lyrics involve a guy using a cheesy, outdated pick-up line on a chick... I don't know what this video is (home-made by Ryan Leslie I think), this is the first time I have seen it, check it out.

Ryan Leslie

Work Jamz!!!: Nivea- Complicated

I am down to 2 of my favorite songs from the restaurant!!! Now this song is by Nivea, who I already knew about.  I have listened to her first album, but not her 2nd.  Complicated is off of that 2nd album- entitled Complicated.  Nivea is very under-rated!!! She has a freakin' beautiful voice!!!! Listen to this song and you will see...

On the VMAs...

Ok, so the VMAs were Thursday and I haven't blogged about them yet so let's get to it.  I actually just watched the VMAs today.  I was away from a tv at the time.  I tried to watched them on the internet, but that was a no-go. They kept showing me all of these crappy views from the audience and crap, then switching to the stage for snippets.  It was like MTV was trying to torture me, so I turned it off.   I've  been reading everyone else's comments and blog post and all of that, but I had to stop that too, because it was making me angry, not having seen them myself.  Anyway, I saw a lot of negative comments about some of my favorite performers and how horrible they were so I was ready to see them for myself and make my own opinion.  I have to keep in mind that these comments are bias.  First off, on the pre-show, Demi Lovato performed her song Give Your Heart a Break.  I love this song and have posted it on my blog (see Just Vids: Demi Lovato- Give Your Heart A Break).  Lots of bloggers were panning other well established artist (Nicki Minaj) and declaring that Lovato was great and it was a crying shame she didn't perform on the main show.

Demi Lovato takes home the VMA for Best Video with a Message

  1. Although Demi Lovato has been on Disney movies and such, she is just beginning to gain radio popularity.  Pre-shows are to showcase up-and-comers (such as Demi Lovato).
  2. Demi Lovato's performance was not that great... It was disappointing to me.  I feel llike she sings really well, but on this performance, it sounded like she was having trouble controlling her breathing.  I also didn't like that crappy mix they did.  I would much rather just hear her sing the song in its original mix and Demi just ripping  those long notes.
Congrats, on her win though...
Rihanna opened up the VMAs with a medley of Cockiness with A$AP Rocky & We Found Love.  There were also plenty of people who had something to say about this.  I did like the Cockiness part.  It kind of put me in a mindset of Aaliyah One in a Million.  (Just the beat and the way Rihanna was dancing, I guess).  However (though it saddens me), I would have to agree with them (haters).  I did not like We Found Love and I never do when she performs it live. She never hits the right notes in my opinion. But, (as you know) I am still team Rihanna all the way!!!

Another disappointing performance for me, was by Alicia Keys.  Unlike them (haters) say, it did not suck.  It wasn't her best VMA performance, let's just say that.
Now, on the up side of things- I was surprised by several of the performances! Pink's performance of Blow Me (One Last Kiss) was pretty cool.  Taylor Swift also performed We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.  She shocked me probably the most of all.  She performed with plenty of uncharacteristic attitude that I have never seen before, and threw back her head and belted a couple of times (Nice!)   I enjoyed Green Day's performance, too, which was shocking (I am not that much of a rocker).  The other thing that surprised me was 2 Chainz.  I have been trying my hardest not to like him (I have put him in the category of what I consider, an idiot rapper), but its becoming hard.  The song he performed (Yuck), had a decent verse.  My 2 favorite performances of the night:  One Direction performed One Thing, they did a great job singing, I really appreciate great LIVE vocal performances.  Then there was Frank Ocean...  Frank Ocean, was hands-down the BEST performance of the night! This man gave a flawless rendition of his single Thinkin' Bout You.  He showed off his vocal prowess and falsetto range in a very simple performance (only accompanied by guitar), putting me in the mindset of Adele performing Someone Like You last year.  Frank Ocean was the 2012 Adele of the VMAs.

The Winners:  Well, I guess I am not a fortune teller...I was 1 for 3. Rihanna won Video of the Year.  Nicki Minaj won Female Video for Starships and Chris Brown won Best Male for Turn Up the Music.

Work Jamz!!!: Animal

Animal (single)

I  first heard a snippet of this song on the Kidz Bop commercial.  So when I heard it in the restaurant I said Heyyyy, its that song from kids bop!!! At first, When I heard the lyrics, they were a little wierd, but the song is catchy enough.  Animal is the first single off of the band Neon Trees first studio album  Habits.  It peaked at # 13 on the hot 100.

Work Jamz!!!: Energy

Now I had heard of this song before working at this restaurant.  Even though Keri Hilson had already established herself in the music industry  both as a songwriter (writing for the likes of Mary J. Blige and Beyonce) and a singer (with Timbaland's hit single They Way I Are), Energy was her first solo single.   The video certainly did not disappoint. It featured Hilson playing one of the cutest boxer I have ever seen...

Happy Birthday Beyonce'!

B'Day (2006)

It's Beyonce's birthday, so I am going to make up a little mini-Beyonce B-day playlist.  Here is a song that is bound to get anyone partying from Beyonce's album, B'Day- Get Me Bodied and Party from her latest album 4, featuring J. Cole (even though I like the Andre 3000 version better).

Work Jamz!!!: Priscilla Renea

You know I find the music in everything I do and everywhere I go, so I just had my first job at a certain restaurant.  Now it isn't the greatest job in the world and of course the pay is bad too.  I have not worked there in several months now, but one of the great things I will always remember about working there is that  it had this jukebox and it played music all day.  Even if the place was crowded, people were making complaints, or they were running me  ragged, I could always cool down with the music in the background.  The jukebox always played plenty of songs that I had never heard before.  I wanted to just share does songs with you here.  I am calling it Work Jamz.
