Back when I posted some of the songs from Chrisette Michele's new album, Better, I saw that I had never seen most of her music videos.  I thought, "I should really spotlight her".  I love her music, and she needs some shine.

CrazySexyCool August: Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip

TLC are music pioneers.  At a time when R&B was not a "popular" musical genre, TLC emerged as one of the acts that brought R&B to the top of the pop charts, with several of the singles from their debut album, Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip reaching the top 10 of the Hot 100. R&B went on to dominate the charts in the 90s.   They, along with others such as Mary J. Blige, made music known as Hip-Hop Soul (although, I would consider their 1st album of the New Jack Swing era), which is the merging of Hip-Hop beats  and R&B, and were one of the first artist to mix singing with raps, which later developed into R&B singers doing collaborations with rappers, such as Mariah Carey, Brandy, etc...  This is (as you know) used prominently in music until this day.

Ooooooohhh...  On the TLC Tip (1992)

During the release time of Ooooooohhh...  On the TLC Tip, TLC were often  criticized  for their sometimes explicit lyrics and talking about men in their songs.  They were know as "feminist rappers".  Later on they would be praised for their "girl power" lyrics because it empowered women to sing/rap about men in the same ways, that many male rappers talked about women in their songs.

CrazySexyCool August

We're talking about TLC here!  The best selling female group in American history... These ladies ruled the 90s.  We're talking hits, album sales, awards, and controversy.  All of these huge things came from 3 of the smallest packages.

TLC

TLC is comprised of Tionne "T-boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and was started in Atlanta in the early 90s. They are fondly remembered for lead singer, T-boz's unique, deep-toned, raspy voice, their socially conscience lyrics, their distinct style, and their innovative music videos and dance moves (and a little bit of controversy).   They shot to the top of the charts right out the gate, with their first single, and never turned back, until 2002, when Left Eye was killed in a fatal car crash.  After the devastating blow, the other two members decided to call it quits, but now have decided to return to the music scene after more than 10 years since the release of their last album.
