CrazySexyCool August: CrazyCool Live- OVO Fest
TLC are performing live again for the first time in years. They've done several performances in the last couple of months. Here they are with Drake, who did a cover of the intro to their Fanmail album.
CrazySexyCool August: Interviews- Reintroduction
So, now that brings us to the present. TLC has been gone for awhile. They have done a few reality show, and some other things but now they are getting back to TLC. The movie, some new music, and touring. Here they talk about it.
CrazySexyCool August: R U the Girl Episodes
Here is the R U the Girl series. T-boz and Chilli are magic together.
CrazySexyCool August: Interviews- R U The Girl
After a few years, TLC decided to get their feet wet after Left-eye's death and do a reality show, where they searched for a girl to record a song with them. Here, they talk about the show.
CrazySexyCool August: TLC on Testimony
TLC on BET's Testimony. They talk about their greatest videos. They are so funny together!
CrazySexyCool August: Last Days of Left Eye
This documentary is eerie. It's about Left-eye. She is shooting during her final trip to Honduras and it records all the way until the fatal car crash.
CrazySexyCool August: TLC at 2002 VMAs
TLC at the VMAs after Left-eye's death. Sorry, there are subtitles in German (I think). This is from youtube...
CrazySexyCool August: CrazyCool Live: TLC's Final Performance
MTV celebrates its 20th birthday with some help from TLC, which had one of the most memorable videos of that time, Waterfalls. This is TLC's last performance with Left-eye before her death.
CrazySexyCool August: 3D
3D (2002)
After months of media speculation that the group had broken up , fueled by the members of TLC embarking on solo endeavors and reports of constant bickering during the release of Fanmail, TLC decided it was time to put the rumors to rest. They got back into the studio to record their 4th album. However, there were many hold-ups in the recording process. First, T-boz suffered from a nasty episode with sickle-cell. Then, Left-eye took a trip to Honduras.
Left-eye had been traveling back and forth to Honduras for awhile by then. She had met a man that was somewhat of a spiritual guide, and was on a search for peace and understanding. She felt that Honduras was the place she could find these things. She took several of her family members and members of a group she was managing with her. Left-eye never returned. While driving with the group of people with her, she got into a terrible car accident, and died.
T-boz and Chilli did eventually complete the album, 3D, and it was released 7 months after Left-eye's tragic death. The record label did want to replace Left-eye, so that TLC could continue to record, but T-boz and Chilli refused. They said they would never replace Left-eye and 3D would be TLC's final album.

Left-eye talks about her different solo projects.

CrazySexyCool August: Interviews- Rosie O'Donnell Show
TLC on The Rosie O'Donnell Show talking about the Grammys.
CrazySexyCool August: Interviews- Kid's Choice Awards
During the Fanmail era, their was tension between the group and rumors were flying that they were breaking up. Left-Eye was not happy and was seeking to release solo material because she had so much she wanted to do creatively, but she wanted to do it and TLC material together. In this interview the group dismisses disbandment rumors.
CrazySexyCool August: Unpretty
Released: July 9, 1999
Album: Fanmail
Charts: # 1 Hot 100 (# 4 R&B)
Unpretty disscusses self-image issues, a problem that plagues many. The video had a huge impact because it showed different women who were fighting with insecurities, some going to great lengths to try to live up to society's standards of beauty. The song was nominanated for Song of the Year and the video was nominated for Best Video- Short Form at the Grammys.
CrazySexyCool August: No Scrubs
Released: January 23, 1999
Album: Fanmail
Charts: # 1 Hot 100 (# 1 R&B)
The 1st single from Fanmail became just about one of the biggest female anthems their will ever be, and got plenty of men all shook up. No Scrubs has Chilli, for the 1st time on a TLC single singing lead, describe the type of low standard man she will not give the time of day. It became another #1 song for TLC. At the time of its release, it was the most played song in radio history. The song won the group another Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or a Group with Vocals. In TLC grand fashion, the music video did not disappoint either. It shows the group in a futuristic, spaceship-like setting, and it won the ladies a MTV VMA for Best Group Video.
CrazySexyCool August: Fanmail
TLC took a long musical hiatus after the release of their 2nd album, due to a number of different obstacles, including their infamous bankruptcy and music business politics like arguing with producers. However, they got through all of that and finally got back in the studio to record in 1998. The result was their 3rd album, Fanmail. Fanmail, as the title suggests, was dedicated to TLC's loyal fans and was released in 1999. It became another huge success for the trio, selling 11 million copies worldwide. Even though it was released just about 9 months before the year 2000, it still managed to rank in the top 100 of Billboard 200 Albums of the Decade (# 84). It also earned TLC 8 Grammy nominations, including R&B Album of the Year, which they won, in 2000.

CrazySexyCool August: CrazyCool Live- VMAs
This is TLC's classic CrazySexyCool Medley performance from the 1995 VMAs. People, please, nobody mess with T-boz's neck dance... It's serious! Don't mess with Chilli when she dropped it low at the begginning of Creep... It's serious! Don't mess with Left- Eye's opening rap, when she did the little wind, and then brought it back up (or the little kick)... It's serious! Just don't mess with TLC's VMA performance... They killed!
CrazySexyCool August: Interviews- 1996 Grammys
TLC spills the beans about their money problems and discontent with the path of their career at that time.
CrazySexyCool August: Creep Alternate Video
Did you see this? TLC often recorded several versions of their music videos. TLC recorded 3 different versions of Creep, finally choosing the final one that we know and love today. Earlier this year, one of the other versions was released. It had a similar look to the videos on their 1st album. Thankfully they figured it out and took a whole new direction with the last video, which ultimately re-invented the group, and made them super sexy. This video follows the storyline of the song more closely, which I personally don't like. It includes Chilli dating the male version of herself, and TLC "hittin' it" (dancing their butts off) in the alley, instead of in the studio. The quality is not very high. Left-Eye mentioned this in several interviews.
Just Vids: Robin Thicke featuring 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar- Give it 2 U
Robin Thicke, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar make for a very interesting half-time show.
CrazySexyCool August: CrazyCool Live- Waterfalls at the Grammys
TLC at the Grammys. Doing the motorcycle before Yung Joc and a couple other dances, too.

CrazySexyCool August: Remix- Creep
I found this gem a few days ago. Its the super smooth mix to Creep, which was on the CD single. It includes a rap from Left-Eye. Her voice is really cute, but her message is strong.
CrazySexyCool August: CrazyCool Live- Kick Your Game
TLC winning lots of awards and performing Kick Your Game, a cut from CrazySexyCool.

CrazySexyCool August: Interviews- Nick News
TLC on Nick News. Left-Eye was very intelligent and thoughtful. I can tell from all of their interviews. She is great at being interviewed.
CrazySexyCool August: Interviews- on MTV
I'm not sure where this is from, but I am guessing it has something to do with MTV. I remember this guy (the news reporter) used to be on MTV. Notice TLC mentioning they don't usually get their nails done. Probably because they didn't have any money to do it... Sad.

CrazySexyCool August: TLC's Behind the Music
TLC's story is one of the essential episodes of Behind the Music. TLC's story is undoubtedly one of victory against all odds but it also serves as a cautionary tale. Their rise to massive stardom was plagued with behind the scenes drama and bad business deals, eventually ending in tragedy that would lead to their disbandment (until now).

It's All That! I remember this performance vividly from my childhood.
Janelle Monae on The Electric Lady
Janelle Monae talks about the name of her latest album, and her inspiration while making it.
Just Music: Janelle Monae feat. Miguel- Primetime
These 2 are like Prince Jr. & Female Prince Jr. in my book. They're taking their influences from Prince and making them into some of the best R&B of today. They have come together for a collaboration for Janelle Monae's The Electric Lady album.

CrazySexyCool August: Diggin' on You
Released : September 25, 1995
Album: CrazySexyCool
Charts: # 5 Hot 100 (# 7 R&B)
This song was released as the final single off of CrazySexyCool and became the 4th top 5 hit off of it. This is another great TLC slow song where T-boz shows us how smooooooth she is. It even rubbed off on Chilli for this one: She gets smooooooth points for this one too. The video shows TLC performing live.
Just Vids: Lady Gaga- Applause
Lady Gaga doesn't dissapoint. She brings the Gaga everytime. You don't ever have to worry about that.
Just Vids: Ariana Grande, Nathan Syke- Almost is Never Enough
These two are giving me Mariah Carey & Wanya Morris from Boyz II Men vibes on this song and video. It's their One Sweet Day. This song is featured on the soundtrack to The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Just Music: Toni Braxton, Babyface- Hurt You
Toni Braxton has reconnected with Babyface and now they are releasing a duet album. The album will be titled Love, Marriage, and Divorce. They have now released a song from the album. Its called Hurt You. Its a nice laid back song. I want to describe it as reminiscent of the 70s. Of course , the vocals are there with Babyface and Toni. They never disappoint there.
CrazySexyCool August: Waterfalls
Released: May 29, 1995
Album: CrazySexyCool
Charts: # 1 Hot 100 (# 4 R&B)
Waterfalls was released as the 3rd single from CrazySexyCool and dealt with issues such as inner-city gang violence, drugs, and HIV and AIDS. It became another #1 hit for TLC. It topped the Hot 100 for 7 weeks, which was way more difficult to do then, than it is today. Waterfalls was ranked the # 2 Hot 100 song of 1995 and Billboard's # 19 Hot 100 song of the 1990s. The song won much praise, many touting it as the "song of the generation", and earned the group a Grammy nomination for Record of the Year in 1996. The video for the song has also recieved large acclaim, becoming one of the most celebrated videos of the 90s. It won the group 4 VMAs in 1995, including Video of the Year. It is TLC's "signature" song.
Just Vids: RaVaugh- Best Friend (Lyric)
I like this song. This girl has a lovely voice. Her name is RaVaughn and she is Ne-yo's protege.
Saturday, August 17, 2013
Just Vids: Justin Timberlake- Take Back the Night
Why are people wearing dress shoes with no socks nowadays? Is that in? Let's stop that... Anyway, JT is releasing a part II to his 20/20 Experience album, and this is the 1st single off of the album. Its got a nice, old school, disco-esque beat.
Friday, August 16, 2013
Just Vids: K-Ci & Jojo- Knock it Off
K-Ci & Jojo are returning with a new album. I can't find the particulars just yet, but when I do, I will update. This is the 1st single.
Just Vids: Musiq Soulchild, Syleena Johnson- Feel This Fire
R&B vets Musiq Soulchild & Syleena Johnson have teamed up to make a collaboration album. The album is titled 9ine and will contain reggae music. The 1st single gives us a little sample, and its sounds good to me.

CrazySexyCool August: Red Light Special
TLC continued their dominance on the charts with the 2nd single off of CrazySexyCool, Red Light Special. They also continued the sexy for the video. In fact, they turned it up a few notches...
Released: February 21, 1995
Album: CrazySexyCool
Charts: # 2 Hot 100 (# 3 R&B)
Music News: The Charts (8/15/13)
Not much has changed in the top 5 on the Hot 100. In fact, nothing has changed...

CrazySexyCool August: Creep
CrazySexyCool, along with highly celebrated music, also contains highly celebrated videos as well. T-boz, Chilli, and Left-Eye did a 180 during this era both musically and visually. This album included less raps from Left-Eye and focused in on T-boz and Chilli to make a form of smooth, sleek R & B. Of course, it made sense for the group to have a sexy, sleek image to match. They did just that. They ditched their fun & silly style from Ooooooohhh... with the video to their song Creep.
Released: October 31, 1994
Album: CrazySexyCool
Charts: # 1 Hot 100 (# 1 R&B)
Creep was released as the 1st single off the album, and was the group's biggest hit at the time of its release (although quickly de-throned by another single off of this same album), becoming their 1st single to reach # 1 on the Hot 100, where it stayed for 4 weeks. It also amassed a staggering 9 weeks on top of the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It was named the # 3 Hot 100 song on Billboard's 1995 year-end chart and the # 21 Hot 100 song of the 1990s. It also won TLC the 1996 Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo/Group.
This is hands down my favorite video by TLC! Yes, (in a T-boz voice) one of TLC's most memorable videos, shows the group getting their sexy "creep" on in silk pajamas.
CrazySexyCool August- CrazySexyCool
TLC's CrazySexyCool is one of the most celebrated R&B albums of all time. After TLC's overnight success, the big question on critics' minds was, "Can they do it again?" They were essentially written off. However, TLC silenced those critics with a vastly different outcome.
Fueled by months of drama surrounding Left-Eye and her infamously burning down her then boyfriend, NFL player Andre Rison's home while they were recording their sophomore album, and then later, TLC's members filing for bankruptcy during the enormous success of CrazySexyCool, buzz was high and stayed high for the feisty trio. TLC did not disappoint. They brought the good music along with the turmoil.
CrazySexyCool was released at the end of 1994. It sold over 11 million copies in America, and was one of the top albums on Billboard's year end chart in 1995 & 1996. It also ranked as # 25 on Billboard's list of albums of the decade (1990s). It was certified diamond by the RIAA and has sold in excess of 23 million copies worldwide. At the time of its release, it was the highest selling album by a female group in history. It won the group one of the first Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album and has been mentioned on several list as "G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) albums.

Robin Thicke continues his dominance on the Hot 100 and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay with Blurred Lines. It broke the radio airplay record of Mariah Carey's smash, We Belong Together this week. Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines (album) debuted at # 1 on Billboard 200. This is his 1st # 1 album. This will go down as Robin Thicke's "big breakthrough" on the pop charts, who has had a decent R&B following for years. Also, Jay-Z and JT move their second song into the top 5 this year.

Back in the day, when artist remixed songs, it would have a new beat (re-mix the song) and sometimes new words. They wouldn't just throw a rapper on there. TLC always had some great remixes. Here is a remix to Baby-Baby-Baby.
